🏫 Implementation and Class Activities (Part 2)
While part 1 focused on the background of the issues, basic legal theory, and an introduction to conventional rights, part 2 of the documentation highlights interactive teaching methods and the responses of street children in the halfway houses:
  • Participatory Learning Methods: Law students from partner universities do not just lecture in a one-way format. Instead, they utilize group discussions, simple case studies of common street scenarios, and simulations of legal actions.
  • Understanding Rights When Dealing with Authorities: A practical session on what street children should do or say if they are arbitrarily stopped, questioned, or detained by law enforcement in the field. They are taught to remain calm and know how to request legal aid.
  • Awareness of Identity Rights: Emphasis on the importance of having a birth certificate or an identity card, as well as how the absence of these documents limits their access to social assistance, formal education, and free government healthcare services.
👥 Impact on Students and Street Children
  • For Street Children: It reduces excessive anxiety and helplessness when facing discrimination on the streets. They begin to understand that the law is also there to protect them, not just a tool to punish them.
  • For Law Students: It serves as an invaluable clinical legal education experience. Students learn to translate complex legal jargon into universal, simple, and easily understood language for marginalized youth.
